Nhaka ndeyemombe, yomunhu inozvisarudzira yoga.

Definition

nhaka: inheritance

Translation

Cattle may be inherited, but a person chooses their own path.

Application

While traditional Shona society had customs such as wife inheritance, this proverb affirms that a person is not property to be inherited or passed on. Human beings have the right to make their own choices and should not be forced into decisions concerning their lives.
